Natural Fiber Clothing 101

Why Natural Fiber Clothing Is Important

Most clothing these days is made from synthetic fabrics derived from plastic and petroleum.

Not only does this contribute to environmental pollution, but it also puts our health at risk by exposing us to harmful toxins, chemicals and microplastic.

Purchasing natural fiber clothing is a way to limit our toxin exposure while also supporting more sustainable and eco-friendly practices.

It is difficult to find 100% natural fiber activewear, socks and undergarments since they would have no stretch, so a bit of elastane or spandex is not the end of the world if it adds to the comfort!

Natural Fibers I Love:

  • Hemp
  • Cotton
  • Silk
  • Leather
  • Merino Wool
  • Linen
  • Bonus for organic!

How To Shop More Sustainably

Natural fiber clothing isn’t always feasible, accessible or affordable, so do the best you can with what you have.

Shopping at thrift stores is a great way to make your closet more eco friendly by giving used clothes a new life, and you can often find some great deals. Make sure to donate your old clothes, or sell them to a thrift store, to prevent them from ending up in a landfill!

You can also check Etsy for handmade natural fiber pieces.

And if you find something you love that makes you feel great and isn’t 100% natural fiber, don’t sweat it :)
